the way that i think about apoe4 is it increases vascular risk it increases the likelihood of a bad pathologic protein called amyloid it's a sticky stuff that builds up in the brain of a person with alzheimer's and people with this gene are more likely to have accelerated deposition or accelerated accumulation of this amyloid protein through a what i would call just in a basic sense a a cholesterol-like vascular-like pathway
