The science of brain function has evolved to measuring neural activity and linking it to specific sounds like consonants and vowels.

“And so we've used this technology not only to map those critical functions and that's sort of where the science was I would say about 10 or 15 years ago figuring out where these functions are in the brain and now we've moved the science to understanding how those areas work um by a progressive evolution of new technologies to get us you know to higher and higher resolution. And what I mean by that is um we can measure the neural activity of cells and cell populations and then link them to for example different consonants and vowels and that's been really an ex like extremely exciting development in human neuroscience.”
