the macula is the central retina and it's responsible for approximately the central 10 degrees of vision and so this is what you know when you're looking at when you're reading something or you're driving you know viewing a stop sign or somebody's space that image lands on the macula the central retina and that is of course the most important part of the retina because that's where your central vision is and unfortunately that area is the most likely to to degenerate as we age
