in shannon parlance he calls it the observer his backup disk is called the observing the observer keeps a signal keeps the original signal until it's needed and if the receiver of the signal does the checksum you know where to checksum is I don't know you listeners will know that every time a signal is sent we know that it is complete because it all methods up if that doesn't add up that's a signal that says oh there's been a transmission error right and instead of going back to the original sender it goes to the observer who keeps a copy of the original signal and gets the rest of the data
