there really isn't much good evidence that caloric restriction is beneficial for people unless you are calorically restricting garbage food so in both animal studies and primate studies which are probably the closest thing we have to an ongoing study that might give us insight for humans when animals are fed diets that are species appropriate so specifically I'm thinking about a set of parallel studies with rhesus macaw monkeys pretty close to humans in terms of primate Evolution the monkeys that were fed garbage diets benefited from caloric restriction the monkeys that were fed evolutionarily consistent diets had no benefit from caloric restriction may have even seen harm
