on one hand they either aren't breaking the food down as well and so there's extra undigested food hitting the bacteria or their motility is slow giving the bacteria a lot of time to consume the food that they're consuming or they are starting off with some sort of imbalance in the microbiome and so when they're consuming anything that feeds bacteria there's massive increases in bacterial toxin production and the most not of these most well studied and discussed one is lipopolysaccharide which is also called LPS or endotoxin
