Direct evidence is thin. The claim is plausible and aligns with adjacent findings, but there isn't yet a body of high-quality work that would let us call it well-supported on its own terms.
And there are many research papers. The research here is a little bit unclear and probably isn't well funded for a reason. We don't really understand. There are certainly studies that suggest that it could affect biological systems at the level of cell membranes, at the level of potassium channels, at the level of calcium channels.
