to make sense of human behavior you got a factor in what your neurons did one second ago but you got a factor in the environmental triggers of that thirty seconds ago and you got a factor in what your hormone levels were like this morning and what neuroplasticity you've done over the last two seasons and what your adolescence was like in your childhood your fetal life in your genes and amazingly what sort of culture were your ancestors inventing centuries ago because that influenced the way you were raised within minutes of birth and what things you value and what things your amygdala does or doesn't respond to and all the think of that what sort of ecosystems produce different types of cultures and then finally evolution and why we're in some ways like chimps and in some ways like bonobos but we're not chimps we're not bonobos we've solved our own special evolutionary if you're gonna understand the stuff it's everything from one second before to 100 million years before and all these levels interact and it's complicated as hell
