so if you go back to 1957 1968 these were pandemics that were marked by the emergence of a novel flu virus that spread around around the world very rapidly and if you look at the United States experience about 1957 in 1968 about a hundred thousand people died from that which is a substantial number because on record right now the the worst flu season we've had outside of 57 and 68 has really been 2017-2018 or about 80,000 people or so may have died so these were severe outbreaks
