my perspective on these chemicals has shifted a little bit over time and i thought well i'm not convinced that these polygons and and reading this study about phytochemicals and beef that you published was one of the main things that got me thinking about this and i thought maybe they're not so bad for us after all but maybe i would prefer to get them from an animal that's more evolutionarily adapted to eating them than i am because i think of these herbivores as these sort of large plant processing facilities that have millions of years of evolution in their phase one and phase two detoxification to sort out which of these compounds are harmful and detoxify some of these compounds and and sort of sort out because i think that some of these phytochemicals may be beneficial for us and some of them are very clearly plant defense chemicals that are trying to do harm to us and so i i've been sort of thinking about this and mulling it over
