it's almost solely driven by mutations of the ras oncogene not saying there aren't other drivers but almost every patient has this ras driver and this is an instruction manual for the cancer cells not just to divide but to do a bunch of metabolic things that involve scavenging nutrients from the environment and taking in nutrients in non-standard ways and so it actually instructs the cancer cells to reach out arms pull in nutrients internalize them degrade macromolecule nutrients from the environment and use this as kind of a garbage recycling form of nutrient access that that makes them very metabolically pernicious
