insulin inhibits lipolysis so when insulin signaling is low hormone sensitive lipase is active triglycerides in the adipocyte are lipolyzed and you get free fatty acids in the blood
so i look at insulin right now and i think there's little doubt that you know biochemically and medically the suppression of lipolysis is a primary perhaps the primary you know function of insulin
but there's an alternative way to look at insulin and that's that we've evolved mainly to be able to survive lack of nutrients okay that this was the strong selective pressure on animals and mammals and that storing fat is very precious and that insulin is a hormone that says you don't have to use fat right now okay and so it senses that there's enough carbohydrate around and therefore it's safe to not release free fat from your adipose tissue
if I raise the insulin just by 10 microts per ml the uh fat stops producing uh free fatty acids and glycerol you inhibit lipolysis literally uh uh completely
