I use metformin. I've been using it for years with the basic belief that even though I don't have diabetes or insulin resistance, it offers some measure of protection from cardiometabolic disease, inclusive of cancer.
The headline is broadly defensible, but the qualifications matter. Effect sizes vary by population, the strongest claims rest on shorter trials, and credible voices push back on how it's typically framed.

Every Sunday: the week’s new conflicts and verdict changes — and nothing else.
Native comments, Twitter mentions, and Reddit threads about this claim — surfaced together so the conversation isn't fragmented across platforms.
Bookmarking — the dossier-vs-overview split is the right call. Most of the time I want overview; sometimes I want receipts.
Would love a "what would change this verdict" RSS feed. Sign me up if it exists.
i prescribe metformin to my patients some who need it for the standard indication of hyperglycemia hyperinsulinemia but a number who say look peter i've read enough of your stuff i've listened to enough of your podcasts i want to you know i want to take metformin for these other benefits and look i think it's completely ethical to do so they're paying for it out of their own pocket it's not like we're asking an insurance company to buy it for them so that's fine
