the other thing is that there might be an issue of compatibility of the mitochondrial genome and the nuclear genome because mitochondrial genomes only get passed from female to female through generations right so you'd expect there would be a lot of selection for excellent compatibility now the mitochondria that end up in males are at a dead end so they don't you know it may be that the male nuclear genome is just not as compatible with the mitochondrial genome as the phenyl genome
