The evidence is convergent. Multiple independent sources reach the same conclusion, the underlying mechanism is well-characterized, and even the field's most cautious voices treat it as worth doing.

there's some fascinating research that i came across when i was writing my book about lectins affecting the actual mucus-producing cells in the gut and if the mucus-producing cells are negatively affected by lectins and there are fenestrations in the mucous layer then certain populations of bacteria can overgrow when they touch the actual gi epithelium leading to inflammation

so is it possible that these lectins in our diet that these that these potentially evolutionarily inappropriate foods are causing issues in the human gut by interacting with our gut by binding carbohydrates on the surface of our of our actual gut intestinal epithelial cells these endothelial cells in the gut that is leading to decreased production of mucus more contact of these bacteria with the gut wall leading to overgrowth leading to inflammation leading to leaky gut i think it's quite possible this may be one of the mechanisms by which lectins are causing this issue in humans
specifically phytohemaglutinin which has been associated with hundreds of cases of food poisoning and in animal models phytohemaglutinin causes leaky gut and dysbiosis disruption of the microbiome
what appears to happen in these guts is overgrowth of the wrong type of bacteria almost like sibo small intestinal bacterial overgrowth dysbiosis induced by these lectins
