“But the problem with Brazil nuts is the dose of selenium in the Brazil nut. Brazil nuts is very variable. And selenium has kind of a tight range of therapeutic efficacy but before it becomes toxic and so you eat one to two Brazil nuts a day you could be getting between 50 and 200 micrograms of selenium and you just don't know. And that's a problem. Um, one to two Brazil nuts a day has also been associated with a meaningful rise in cadmium levels. So the problem with seeds and nuts is like so many other parts of the plant, they will accumulate heavy metals.”
