so so even at the equator people can get obese one of the most interesting things that I saw you point out in one of your videos was the difference in the Obesity levels between Southern and Northern Italy and then talk about obesity in Spain because I think that when people hear this notion that monounsaturated fat Rich olive oil and we'll talk about something good in olive oil in a moment potentially yeah the notion that monounsaturated fat olive oil is bad for humans they think and you've mentioned this in one of your videos there are comments that say well then how do you square this with all of these regions of the world where people eat this olive oil they're so healthy but you pointed out in your video that like there's a real difference in the southern region of Italy versus the northern region of Italy and then Spain yeah and so right so if you look at the if you actually look uh in a completely unbiased way at the the data that we have right the the studies that we have about these Mediterranean countries what you see is that um Spain has one of the highest rates of diabetes in the world I mean they are rivaling the US in in diabetes rates and everything that I all the evidence that I have suggests that Spanish people really do mainly eat olive oil right and they're just as diabetic as the US is and then um Italy there's a very clear difference in the Northern Italy is the po valley that's where po lenta comes from and they mostly eat butter there they eat butter and they eat cornmeal and as you go to the South um the diet becomes more weed and olive oil and the the Obesity is concentrated in the rural south of of Italy and some of the areas in rural or in southern Italy according to that study were like 40% obesity rates which again Rivals um Rivals the US right and um childhood obesity is now a real problem in Greece um and Italy has one of the highest rates of fatty liver disease on on Earth um in fact Italy they think will soon become the the number one country in terms of the percentage of people who have fatty liver disease and so you know uh this I think the story that we're being told about this incredible health of the Mediterranean region might just simply be incorrect
