The @nytimes and @WSJ both reported recently on the “proteinification” of well, everything, with consumers being offered protein in popcorn, cereal, ice cream, candy, donuts, and yes, water. The craze is being driven by social media and GLP-1 weight loss drugs, and found its way into the most recent season of "The White Lotus." According to market research firm Mintel, in 2024 food makers introduced 97 new products with “protein” in the name, more than double the year before.
