The control center in the social homeostasis circuit involves a brain area called the lateral hypothalamus and the periventricular hypothalamus. The lateral hypothalamus and the periventricular hypothalamus contain neurons that are able to access the hormone system in order to influence the release of things like oxytocin, which is a hormone neuropeptide, it's got a part hormone, part neurotransmitter, it's kind of a hybrid, we're going to talk a lot about oxytocin today.
