some 70-90 year old males have total Testosterone levels comparable to 20-40 year olds (albeit mostly low end). [Note: 1972 data]
The evidence is convergent. Multiple independent sources reach the same conclusion, the underlying mechanism is well-characterized, and even the field's most cautious voices treat it as worth doing.

Every Sunday: the week’s new conflicts and verdict changes — and nothing else.
Native comments, Twitter mentions, and Reddit threads about this claim — surfaced together so the conversation isn't fragmented across platforms.
Bookmarking — the dossier-vs-overview split is the right call. Most of the time I want overview; sometimes I want receipts.

Age & Testosterone Decline
although we're going to talk about some data that show that there's actually tremendous variation in testosterone levels, there's actually a lot of examples of men in their 90s, their 90s, who still have testosterone levels that mimic pubertal levels, which is remarkable and speaks to the huge variation in testosterone levels across individuals.
even when exploring the um Scatter Plots because they showed individual points they didn't just show the averages of testosterone levels in men in their 50s 60s 7s 80s even 90s there were these outliers these guys who had testost levels that were on par with uh testosterone levels of men in their 30s but these guys were in their 50s 60s 7s 80s even 90s
I've seen 80-year-olds that certainly have the highest test stost level I'll see you know for 6 months
so we do see great variation
there was a very interesting graph that showed testosterone levels as a function of age in na s um and as one might expect testosterone levels were on average much higher in late teens early 20s 30s and there was a progressive decline
for the decline in testosterone levels in men uh first of all it's so much more gradual compared to what happens to women at menopause right there no comparison whatsoever and there is incredible amount of variation across subjects and so uh once again even though you can say statistically we know this is a trend I I can't make you you tell me someone's 71 years old just to pick on me I I can't predict what they're testosterone levels are going to be like or not very well.
One thing I learned from your textbook um was that you know this idea that testosterone diminishes with age is largely true but the rates are are highly variable and that you know there there are some individual points on the scatter plot whereby you'll see somebody in their 70s or 80s whose testosterone is very similar to someone in their 20s or 30s.
i don't think testosterone has to decline as we age and one of the reasons i wanted to do this podcast was to let males and the women that love them um and women who are dealing with low testosterone know that that lifestyle factors play a huge huge role here
