So again, I don't like to simplify things too much, but leucine appears to really be driving this ship.
The evidence is convergent. Multiple independent sources reach the same conclusion, the underlying mechanism is well-characterized, and even the field's most cautious voices treat it as worth doing.

Every Sunday: the week’s new conflicts and verdict changes — and nothing else.
Native comments, Twitter mentions, and Reddit threads about this claim — surfaced together so the conversation isn't fragmented across platforms.
Bookmarking — the dossier-vs-overview split is the right call. Most of the time I want overview; sometimes I want receipts.
Would love a "what would change this verdict" RSS feed. Sign me up if it exists.
You can add free leucine to it, to whatever your source of protein is. Now, it tastes horrible. It's completely non-polar, it does not not dissolve in anything And it is gross.
Well, we know if you give leucine, it increases muscle protein synthesis. But we also know if you supplement with leucine, people don't get more muscular.
he he did all of the original research looking at hey if you take wheat protein and you take and you add the branched chain amino acids to it you can get a similar response for as far as muscle protein says this - like a whey protein but like then he further isolated and found cool you take wheat protein and you add leucine to it to a significant degree you still get the same amount of muscle protein census
It's so much easier to get the leucine that your body requires to have optimal muscle protein synthesis from animal foods.
we actually did a study in our lab where we looked at whey protein versus wheat protein we saw that whey protein obviously had a much bigger response in muscle protein synthesis compared to wheat sorry and that's that's obviously gram per gram right gram per gram yeah we Ison nitrogen yes but when we added Lucine to match the Lucine content of the way we actually got the exact same response
when we added Lucine to match the Lucine content of the way we actually got the exact same response
we also double check that by adding free Lucine on the casine and we got a greater response
if you're consuming a variety of plant-based and animal-based food sources and or supplementing with whey protein you probably don't have to worry about consuming enough Lucine at each meal or throughout the day
