And then there's the third type, which is the adaptive immune system. And you'll notice that leading up until now, I haven't said the word antibody at all, and that's because it is the job not of the skin or the mucus or the microbiome or the innate immune system to produce antibodies that can recognize specific invaders, but rather it is the job of the adaptive immune system to create antibodies against bacteria, viruses, and even parasites and even physical intruders to your system.
