A colleague of mine at Stanford, who runs a major pain clinic, is working on and has published quality peer-reviewed data on the role of love in modulating the pain response, only there's a twist to it and I'm not going to reveal it just yet, but it turns out that the specific type of connection one has to a romantic partner actually dictates whether or not their love for them will alleviate physical pain and the effects are really robust.
