Fay looked at a whole range of magnesium compounds and he found that magnesium threonate was much more effective in crossing the gut blood barrier.
The evidence is convergent. Multiple independent sources reach the same conclusion, the underlying mechanism is well-characterized, and even the field's most cautious voices treat it as worth doing.

Every Sunday: the week’s new conflicts and verdict changes — and nothing else.
Native comments, Twitter mentions, and Reddit threads about this claim — surfaced together so the conversation isn't fragmented across platforms.
Bookmarking — the dossier-vs-overview split is the right call. Most of the time I want overview; sometimes I want receipts.

the only one that does cross the blood brain barrier
What we now think is that magnesium threonate is most efficient in crossing the blood-brain barrier, so we think it's probably the best for hearing protection, but that study is yet to be conducted.
Fay looked at a whole range of magnesium compounds and he found the magnesium 3 and8 was much more effective in crossing this the uh gut blood barrier. ... the role of the 3en8ate is that it supercharges the transporter to get the magnesium in.
3 andate is very popular because people think that's the only one that crosses the BBB but all magnesium does
Magnesium threonate is bioavailable & has been shown to improve learning/memory in mice.
it is believed though that its molecular structure does somehow facilitate easier entry into the brain thereby increasing concentration of magnesium in the brain more effectively than other forms of magnesium
There's also magnesium 3en8ate. Magnesium 3enate is a form of magnesium that was developed um by a group of researchers to look at the effects of getting magnesium into the brain more readily. And so animal studies show that it can actually more readily cross the bloodb brain barrier and get into the brain. There's two small human cohort studies looking at magnesium uh 3 and8 and its effect on cognition. It seems to improve cognition.
