But if you meditate 20 minutes a day, you will change the use of hundreds of genes in your body, and this change is a positive one, and we will explain that during this talk.
The evidence is convergent. Multiple independent sources reach the same conclusion, the underlying mechanism is well-characterized, and even the field's most cautious voices treat it as worth doing.

Every Sunday: the week’s new conflicts and verdict changes — and nothing else.
Native comments, Twitter mentions, and Reddit threads about this claim — surfaced together so the conversation isn't fragmented across platforms.
Bookmarking — the dossier-vs-overview split is the right call. Most of the time I want overview; sometimes I want receipts.
Would love a "what would change this verdict" RSS feed. Sign me up if it exists.
So if it can change the expression of over 100 genes, which means it can turn genes on, turn genes off.
And you probably might know more about this. But he was mentioning like immediate changes in blood flow to the brain, brain activity just like immediately, not to mention the long-term benefits that occur. And so, but then he went on to say, you know, meditation, a lot of people make a big thing about it, like what you experience is like that's work. I mean, that's, you know, real...you have to dedicate, you have to really practice, you know, doing something. But he was talking about meditation in the sense of just taking some time and being now, here, right here, like looking at whatever some nice tree outside of your window, listening to some music, not thinking about what you're planning an hour from now or what you did last night, but just being here now. And so, not everyone has to like sit there and om or whatever, you know? Not everyone has to sit there and focus on their breathing. Maybe focusing on your breathing helps if you have a wandering mind which I do. So, I think I probably would have to focus on my breathing. But...
I'd read a study showing that there were gene expression changes that occurred after like the first five minutes of meditation. There was like 500 different genes were changing their gene expression, which to me is very phenomenal that you can actually just...just by actually stopping the rumination and sitting there and whatever it is that you're thinking in the present moment or there's lots of different types of meditation, but that you can actually just change the way so many different genes are working, many of those in the brain, of course.
