A parent who is physically present but emotionally absent can cause a wound that leads to love avoidance in adult men.

And if dad is distant from me, dad's also distant from mom and mom is brokenhearted. And traditionally, mom's brokenhearted and not doing much about it, just resenting it and suffering it. Downloading a lot of that feeling to me, whether she means to or not, I just pick it up. And then I move into some skewed relationship where I'm parenting her instead of being parented by her.”
