'Looks maxing' can be a way to address self-disgust and relationship difficulties by hyper-focusing on physical appearance.

“Here's the the thing about looks maxing. There's no other humans involved. There's no possibility. Like, getting somebody else to fall in love with [ __ ] me. Like, that's so hard. I don't even know where to start. I don't even like myself. How am I supposed to get somebody else to fall in love with me? When I look in the mirror, I see disgust. I cannot fathom or tolerate the idea of going on a date and having this person look at this. So, I'm going to transform myself. I'm going to solve all of those problems by solving one problem. I'm going to turn if I can just do this one thing. I'm going to take a multivariate regression analysis and hyperfocus on one variable.”
