one of the assumptions about borderline personality disorder from the dbt lens is that this is uh we use a skills deficit model which is to say that we believe that people who end up with the constellation of problems associated with borderline personality disorder have an absence of certain skills and skillful behavior in their lives and that absence could be a result of never having been taught it in the first place or having had effective behaviors been punished out of them by their environment this is the environmental piece that we're talking about but they they don't have um we all you know have certain deficits in in some air in some skillful areas and so the work another one i would just add to that it's so so yeah the skills have never been modeled for you you've done them correctly and been punished for them i think a bigger one might be you've done them incorrectly and never been corrected
