Amazingly, under the most metabolically flexible and least metabolically flexible conditions, you see the same pattern, which is higher free fatty acids. But again, it comes down to flux. Exactly. I suspect that in the person with diabetes, it's just an accumulation of free fatty acid in the plasma, whereas in the very metabolically flexible person, if you were putting a tracer on that FFA, you'd see rapid turnover.
