But if you step back a little bit further, it makes perfect sense because there's nothing specific about the red light in the sense that it gets delivered only to red cones. That red light and near-infrared light is being absorbed by all the photoreceptors within the eye, the rods and the blue cones and the green cones and the red cones. It's just that the red cones absorb that light best.
