cardiolipin is a four fatty acid molecule that's uniquely found in mitochondria bacteria and chloroplasts in plants cardiolipin is what allows the electron transport chain to function it's what moves protons along moves electrons back and it holds the mitochondria together it gives its shape it gives the mitochondria its shape and the complexes that you talk to with peter all are bound into cardiolipin right into what they call super complexes cardiolipin is so critical that if cardiolipin is damaged or removed from the mitochondria the entire mitochondria stops to function okay now this is essential to understand because cardiolipin fatty acid composition is determined in part by the diet it's also determined by dna but it's determined in part by the diet
