There are data on NAC and COPD. Apparently it can impact/reduce mucous buildup substantially.
The evidence is convergent. Multiple independent sources reach the same conclusion, the underlying mechanism is well-characterized, and even the field's most cautious voices treat it as worth doing.

Every Sunday: the week’s new conflicts and verdict changes — and nothing else.
Native comments, Twitter mentions, and Reddit threads about this claim — surfaced together so the conversation isn't fragmented across platforms.
Bookmarking — the dossier-vs-overview split is the right call. Most of the time I want overview; sometimes I want receipts.
Would love a "what would change this verdict" RSS feed. Sign me up if it exists.
I ended up doing that at a dosage of anywhere from 600 to 900 milligrams three times per day so it was a 600 to 900 milligram capsule depending on which brand I purchased a lot of different versions of this out there on the market I took it morning late morning and afternoon and indeed it is a powerful mucolytic the mucus just starts flowing out of you you better have an extra box of tissues handy and that greatly relieved the pressure in my sinuses
I had a very good experience with Knack and the use of knack and acetal cysteine as a decongestant and also as a way to prevent getting colds and flu
netal is used in certain clinics overseas and in the US as a way to treat cystic fibrosis because it's also a mucolytic and cystic fibrosis is the buildup of fluid in the lungs and a mucolytic substance is something that loosens up the mucus and allows it to flow more readily out of different cavities of the body including the lungs the nasal passages and sinuses
Knack which some people take it's a mucolytic it's actually a great decongestant yep if uh you're congested and it increases glutathione that's my understanding
it's a mucolytic yes because mu mucus again the reason why mucus is so thick is because of those SS bonds so when you put Knack in there it breaks it off and now it's liquidy
it's used to treat cystic fibrosis and the uh to counteract the buildup of fluid in the lungs as I understand
I find that neck in addition to increasing glutathione which can only be a good thing — is a great decongestant
