but he had this whole thing about them about the chemicals the oxalates in different forms of vegetables like kale and and other other vegetables that we think of being healthy that might not be good for you
The evidence is convergent. Multiple independent sources reach the same conclusion, the underlying mechanism is well-characterized, and even the field's most cautious voices treat it as worth doing.

Every Sunday: the week’s new conflicts and verdict changes — and nothing else.
Native comments, Twitter mentions, and Reddit threads about this claim — surfaced together so the conversation isn't fragmented across platforms.
Bookmarking — the dossier-vs-overview split is the right call. Most of the time I want overview; sometimes I want receipts.
Would love a "what would change this verdict" RSS feed. Sign me up if it exists.
perhaps autoimmune conditions are triggered in some people by the accumulation of these defense chemicals
why don't you eliminate kale why don't you eliminate spinach spinach is full of oxalates kale is full of isothiocyanates like sulforaphane which are going to be negative for your thyroid and i think clearly net negative for humans
and so many more rheumatoid arthritis whatever what do you do then well the first thing many people do is eliminate gluten from wheat well that's great that's a good first step gluten is a lectin it's derived from the seed of wheat which we think of as a grain but all grains are seeds all seeds are highly defended so that's one little seed that people get out of their diet that helps a lot some people will eliminate c some people will eliminate soy that's another seed we think of it as a bean but it's a seed okay great we're eliminating a few of the plant foods some people are very savvy they end up with autoimmune paleo diets and they will eliminate tomatoes which are night shades from the same family as potatoes or eggplants great that's another potential trigger that whole night trade family can be triggering even fruit in the nightshade family can be triggering for humans but that's where most people stop i wanted to take it a step further and say why don't you eliminate kale why don't you eliminate spinach spinach is full of oxalates kale is full of isothiocyanates like sulforaphane which are going to be negative for your thyroid and i think clearly net negative for humans why don't you eliminate all the beans because they're full of lectins they're full of digestive enzyme inhibitors eliminate all the seeds eliminate all the nuts eliminate all of the roots preferentially even sweet potatoes i know you guys love sweet potatoes and you love white potatoes but eliminate all the grains eliminate all the sweet potatoes just focus on organs meat fruit honey and raw dairy and see how your autoimmune condition does then that is what i think is so interesting because at that point we have really maximized bioavailability of nutrients absolute levels of nutrients as well and we have minimized plant toxins sure there might be a few defense chemicals in some fruit but there are much lower levels than what would be found in vegetables and i think that at this level the benefits of these minerals and other trace nutrients found in these fruits outweigh the potential harms of those smaller amounts of plant defense chemicals
I think the biggest takeaway for me was that like people that have autoimmune disease should really think about what foods they're eating and a lot of foods we think of as healthy some vegetables can cause this issue for people and there are defense chemicals in Plants especially the vegetables right
