but the idea that the idea that we need fiber for a healthy microbiome is totally false
We can't find evidence that holds up here. Proponents are reasoning from mechanism or analogy rather than direct human data, and the most credible skeptics raise objections we can't dismiss.
but the idea that the idea that we need fiber for a healthy microbiome is totally false
Every Sunday: the week’s new conflicts and verdict changes — and nothing else.
Native comments, Twitter mentions, and Reddit threads about this claim — surfaced together so the conversation isn't fragmented across platforms.
Bookmarking — the dossier-vs-overview split is the right call. Most of the time I want overview; sometimes I want receipts.
Would love a "what would change this verdict" RSS feed. Sign me up if it exists.
there is so much evidence now that humans do not need fiber in the diet there is no benefit to fiber in the human diet and then if we look at the microbiome there are more and more studies suggesting that fiber probably doesn't really even change the microbiome that much and there's no evidence the fiber changes the microbiome in a positive way
I personally think and I cannot prove it yet that the whole gut microbiome story is white noise it is literally smoke there smoke and mirrors to keep us confused about the benefits of fiber at this point
I do not for the life of me I cannot figure out where all of these nutritional figureheads are getting this often repeated as cannon notion that we need plant fiber for a healthy microbiome and I would encourage everyone listening to question that notion vigorously because I have not seen it in literature at all
the idea that we absolutely need plant fiber to create a healthy microbiome is something I've heard repeated on many podcasts and I always kind of bristle and think how do you know that how do you know that because clinically we see the opposite anecdotally we see the opposite there are plenty of anecdotes plenty of what will hopefully soon be case reports or case studies of people with bad GI issues meaning either inflammatory bowel disease that would be Crohn's or ulcerative colitis also irritable bowel syndrome which is probably synonymous with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth many of these people have complete resolution or significant improvement in their symptoms when they eliminate fiber from their diet
the messaging out there in the space that we absolutely need fiber to have a healthy microbiome is not is not it's not true in my opinion is not supported by the evidence
