we do know and it's slightly more complex story so it's all about the dose um so stimulants are used to treat ADHD and we know that people we've known for decades people who have ADHD who have symptoms of ADHD have glucose hypom metabolism in their brains so their brains are not producing enough ATP from glucose what is one way to increase that dopamine dopamine will increase that so you can give people stimulants to improve their brain metabolism enough so that they now no longer have symptoms or at least have a reduction in their symptoms that story is unequivocally true we have lots of animal data human neuroimaging data clinical research studies documenting that appropriate doses of stimulants so that's usually loish doses can improve brain metabolism and what that means is that it's they're actually stimulating mitochondria to produce more ATP
