in addition to well-known functions of chloroquine such as elevations of endosomal ph which are the lysosomes these sort of vesicles in the cells where the virus is being processed if you raise the pH of those in the somes it appears that perhaps the virus is unable to do its work of reassembly and is less effective in our cells so that may be one of the mechanisms by which chloroquine is working
