to the hormone panel I would add a uric acid which is something that I did a mini podcast with amber O'Hearn about and an iron panel which again is a number of measures an iron panel should include all of these but it would be eighty IBC which is total binding capacity ferritin transferrin and serum iron
so the basic blood work panel that I would like to see on anyone whether you are about to go carnivore whether you've been on a carnivore diet for a few months whether you're on a ketogenic diet whether you're on a plant-based diet whatever consists of an NMR which is a nuclear magnetic resonance lipid panel or a basic lipid panel but I would prefer the NMR panel I do think it's valuable to get LP little-a in the previous week's podcast from Dave and Siobhan we talked about that I definitely want to see a fasting insulin hemoglobin a1c a comprehensive metabolic panel with a GG T and a magnesium and the phosphorus level a comprehensive a complete blood count with differential and HS CRP a homocysteine a full thyroid panel with TSH free t3 free t4 total t3 and t4 reverse t3 and anti thyroid antibodies I really like to see a full sex hormone panel which has estradiol FSH LH testosterone DHEA DHT prolactin morning cortisol and if you're concerned about cortisol I would also get a cortisol Awakening response and perhaps a daily sort salivary cortisol profile and then I want to see a PTH as I talked about in this podcast a PTH in addition to a 25 hydroxy vitamin D and they serum calcium level in an in the context of an albumin gives me a sense of calcium status and I think that we need to think about that on a carb or diet I also find a uric acid to be beneficial as well as a full iron panel which will have ferritin TI b c serum iron and transferrin saturation we talked about that in this podcast red blood cell folate red blood cell magnesium plasma zinc are also quite helpful as adjunctive measures
I want to see basic things CBC comprehensive metabolic panel I want to see ggt I want to know my liver is fine and my kidneys are fine there's no reason for them not to be but I just want to check Now I'm checking iron I want to see what my tibc is I want to see what my transference at and my iron stores are I want to see my shbg I want to see my testosterone especially my free testosterone I want to see my estrogen and my estrone I want to see my thyroid hormones
I think getting a fasting insulin is essential I think getting a homocysteine is critical and I would also get a full hormone panel what do I mean by that get a prolactin get estrogen which is estradiol and estrone sulfate testosterone free in total get d-h-e-a-s get progesterone if you're a woman get cortisol maybe AM and PM think about your cortisol the DHEA ratio
Um you want to make sure you get um a fasting insulin. I mean, that's probably the most important thing. If you're looking at glucose, you might get an A1C. You want to get a full thyroid panel. You want to get TSH, freeT3, free T4, reverse T3. You really want to know these things. You got to check a homoyine, which gives you a sense of methylation broadly. Um, you probably need to check hormones. Most people don't get hormones checked at their physicals, but you want to check testosterone, estradiol, prolactin, progesterone. Um, you want to check SHBG, which is sex hormone binding globulin.
