-increases alpha diversity
We can't find evidence that holds up here. Proponents are reasoning from mechanism or analogy rather than direct human data, and the most credible skeptics raise objections we can't dismiss.

Every Sunday: the week’s new conflicts and verdict changes — and nothing else.
Native comments, Twitter mentions, and Reddit threads about this claim — surfaced together so the conversation isn't fragmented across platforms.
Bookmarking — the dossier-vs-overview split is the right call. Most of the time I want overview; sometimes I want receipts.

the removal of fiber from the diet in a carnivore diet which has actually been done there was a week long trial with the removal of fire because fiber does not change alpha diversity in the gut the inclusion of fiber does not increase alpha diversity in the gut one it is supplemented and there are many studies with ketogenic diets which are relatively low fiber which do not change the alpha diversity of the gut so statements blanket statements like one hour and 45 minutes that we need fiber for hut go healthy gut microbiome are unproven
there's actually a 7-day study at Harvard University looking at a totally animal-based diet with no fiber and there was no change in the Alpha diversity of the microbiome of those people
Fiber has really not been shown to increase microbial diversity in the gut. Removing fiber doesn't decrease microbial diversity.
But that concept seems to me to come from epidemiology observational studies like you are suggesting where we look at indigenous people and we say hey they have a diverse microbiome and they're eating lots of fiber. Therefore fiber equals diverse microbiome which is false right because we know that they're also killing animals and touching animals and being in the dirt and being in the sun and drinking you know uh spring water or drinking free flowing water. There are so many things that could affect the diversity of a microbiome beyond fiber. And in the interventional studies like this one, when we remove fiber, the alpha diversity doesn't decrease. And when we add fiber to the diet, alpha diversity doesn't increase.
so if we're using alpha diversity as a metric of quote gut health uh i think that there's really no evidence that fiber is beneficial
so the notion that we need fiber for an increasing alpha diversity is false
there are so many studies to show that fiber does not increase alpha diversity and that elimination of fiber does not decrease alpha diversity you can look at diet rapidly and reproducibly alters the gut microbiome to prove that
but there is no indication that fiber is beneficial for the gut in terms of inflammation or alpha diversity people are just wrong
most people in the gut world who believe that they are gut experts or who think about the gut would look at a metric called alpha diversity which is a measure of the number of species within your gut as a measure of quote-unquote gut health there are epidemiology observational studies that show that in areas where people have more fiber they have better alpha diversity but that does not mean that more fiber from vegetables cause an increase in alpha diversity and as i will show you there are interventional studies where fiber is increased in someone's diet and there is no change in alpha diversity
justin sonnenberg increasing the fiber did nothing for the microbial diversity or the inflammatory markers in the study why are people continuing to stay on the bandwagon of eat more fiber plant fiber is good
there is no indication that fiber is beneficial for the gut in terms of inflammation or alpha diversity people are just wrong
