We can't find evidence that holds up here. Proponents are reasoning from mechanism or analogy rather than direct human data, and the most credible skeptics raise objections we can't dismiss.

Every Sunday: the week’s new conflicts and verdict changes — and nothing else.
Native comments, Twitter mentions, and Reddit threads about this claim — surfaced together so the conversation isn't fragmented across platforms.
Bookmarking — the dossier-vs-overview split is the right call. Most of the time I want overview; sometimes I want receipts.
Would love a "what would change this verdict" RSS feed. Sign me up if it exists.
for primary prevention the mean increase in lifespan for being on a Statin is four days four days four days four days S I have to chuckle that's that's uh and the risk for diabetes is 20% increase what about any Improvement in in quality of life done for primary prevention
if you look at the population studies for primary prevention with statins you know that and that is when they give statins to large populations people who have not had cardiovascular events the data is very poor that it helps that there's any net benefit in fact there's probably a net harm and what you see is perhaps a small reduction are you you ask the risk events with an increase in mortality due to other things like violent deaths and other problems so in primary prevention studies statins cause clearly cause a lot of problems in people that don't have heart disease
Um certainly you can uh maybe reduce your cardiovascular risk if you've already had a heart attack by taking a statin, but at what cost? Um long-term long-term mortality benefits to statins are it's just questionable when you look at all cause mortality. Some studies say yes, some studies say no depending primary prevention versus secondary prevention.
