V02 max as well.
The evidence is convergent. Multiple independent sources reach the same conclusion, the underlying mechanism is well-characterized, and even the field's most cautious voices treat it as worth doing.
V02 max as well.
Every Sunday: the week’s new conflicts and verdict changes — and nothing else.
Native comments, Twitter mentions, and Reddit threads about this claim — surfaced together so the conversation isn't fragmented across platforms.
Bookmarking — the dossier-vs-overview split is the right call. Most of the time I want overview; sometimes I want receipts.
Would love a "what would change this verdict" RSS feed. Sign me up if it exists.
if you look at the literature on mortality one of the strong strongest predictors of how long you're going to live is your V2 Max so we've set up a scenario in which you're going to hit all three of those primary goals by doing a combination of this training
"You can live forever. That's how we determine how long you're going to live for is VO2 max, and your VO2 max is through the roof."
the idea that V2 Max is the single greatest predictor of lifespan of any measurable number we have um is is quite remarkable
V2 Max is the greatest predictor of lifespan this is kind of a remarkable statement again and I and I'll repeat it because it is so profound whether you smoke or don't smoke whether you have diabetes or don't have diabetes whether you have endstage kidney disease or don't heart disease not hypertension or not all of those things play an important role in predicting the length of your life but not as much as having a very high V2 Max
the reason I argue that that's probably the case is that V2 Max is an exceptional integrator of work that is done

because again it is one of the most important if not the most important modifiable metric we have to speak to both the length and quality of life

if you just have the desire to live as long as you can and as well as you can you have to know your V2 Max and you need to optimize it and make it frankly as high as you can
cardiorespiratory fitness is is one of the most important and modifiable. It's very important that we're talking about modifiable predictors of both how long you're going to live and how well you're going to live.
Now, this has been most typically and most repeatedly measured using a test called V2 max. You've heard me talk about this, of course, um, and it's become a very popular thing that people talk about. It's the maximum rate at which the body can utilize oxygen. Tested, of course, during maximal efforts, which require exercise.

VO2 max & life expectancy
Maximizing longevity isn't just about adding years to your life; it's about enhancing the quality of those years through superior cardiorespiratory fitness, as measured by VO2 max.
Cardiorespiratory fitness (measured by VO2 max) is one of the best indicators of improved healthspan and lifespan.
VO2 Max is not just about a measure of cardiorespiratory Fitness it's directly linked to longevity essentially the higher your V2 Max the longer you're likely to live and there doesn't seem to be an upper limit to the life extending benefits of enhanced cardiorespiratory Fitness at least within your genetic potential
VO2 Max is a measure of maximal oxygen uptake which reflects an individual's ability to utilize oxygen during exercise it's considered one of the best indicators of cardiorespiratory Fitness and it's associated with improved healthspan increased lifespan higher cardiorespiratory levels as measured by V2 Max have been consistently leaked to A reduced risk of mortality and longer lifespan
so the findings if if I recall was like both of them are in the book I think I have I have figures from both of them in the in the you had the numbers in there okay um and that so that was like the top I just remember it was like the top percentile I mean they had like 80% lower the top yeah if you compared the top the difference in Risk between someone in the bottom 25 percentile of V2 Max to the top 2 and a half% has a hazard ratio of five meaning it's four time 400 times greater all cause mortality if you're in the bottom 25% versus the top 2%
cardiorespiratory Fitness this is one of the best biomarkers for longevity in my opinion um so cardiorespiratory Fitness is measured empirically by V2 Max so that's the maximal amount of oxygen that you can take up during maximal exercise
how do you improve your V2 Max how do you improve your cardiorespiratory Fitness well aerobic exercise is definitely one of the best ways to do that
Cardiorespiratory fitness has really become a very very important biomarker of our health span and lifespan.
